“Me athes una foto por favor.”  I asked my Spanish friend Merry to teach me some Spanish words to help me get by during my Spain trip during my most recent Spain trip.  Like, “La cuenta por favor” means you’re asking for the cheque.  “Tu ta bien?” means everything is good?  “Quanto cuesta” means how much, if you’re going around shopping.  More importantly, especially if you’re traveling alone, one thing you should know how to say is, “can you please take my photo?”

That Spain trip was truly memorable.  Other than it close to being an impulse, I was able to visit Barcelona, Madrid, Salamanca and Valladolid.  I even kind of crashed a traditional wedding in Salamanca.  There are many things to like about Spain.  Their food was really awesome, from tapas or their little plates of dishes to callos, bacalao, paella, pulpo con gallega, and my simplest yet yummy discovery there, pimientos de padron.  One thing though that really reminds me of Spain even when I was a young kid is what has become almost domestic to Filipinos, and part of our everyday consumption, is Spanish Sardines.

One recent unearthing in the grocery stores is San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines.  It’s made with select freshly caught herring fish with firm contents.  I noticed upon closer inspection is the fact that the scales are still intact, which is a good sign that it was carefully selected, packed and bottled.  It is premium sardines, which is heavy on Omega-3 that lowers blood cholesterol level thus reduces the risk of having heart problems.

San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines is freshly sealed and does not have any preservatives.  Each bottle has net weight of 240g at Php 95.00 but it’s packed with several delicious herrings good to share even in a medium-sized group.

When I am trying to avoid eating too much beef and pork, fish always tops the list.  It’s great that San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines is readily available in the market today.  I can sauté it with garlic and onions in the same corn oil it’s bottled in or just put it in a serving dish and pop it in the microwave.  For a woman on the go like me, it’s so convenient to have good-tasting and flavor-ridden food that can be nuked for a few minutes and served quickly.

A steaming cup of rice coupled with San Marino Spanish Sardines is a good source of protein and energy.  The brand is a good choice for every day meals, whether it’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Their sardines taste meaty, not too fishy, with just the right shade of brininess.  I love saucing my rice with the oil it has marinated in.  It’s so appetizing, what a delicious meal.
